How to get waves, the complete manual
This is going to be a long one people.
First off folks who are new to the wave game, welcome. Waves are not something that comes overnight y'all. They take a lot of time, hard work and dedication. They take some investing and homework. Your MAIN investments are going to be 1) brushes. 3 to be exact. A hard brush, a medium brush and a soft brush. 2) your own good set of clippers and edgers. Learn to cut your own hair. It will save you time and money and you will learn how you like to keep your hair. 3) a tsurag. Better than a durag when it comes to laying your hair down. There will be no lines in your hair or on your forehead. 4) a big mirror with a handle. This will let you see what you are doing on all sides while brushing and will make you keep a consistant pattern when first starting off. 5) moisturizer. A good moisturizer will help keep your hair moist and your scalp healthy. 6) a good shampoo and conditioner. These items will wash all the old products out and the conditioner will put moisture in your hair which in turn will make more curls for you to brush and train. LASTLY, products. This is up to you. Everyones hair is diffrent. You will need a good pomade like Wavebuilder Super Wax, natural wave pomade, deep wave, sportin waves (black or gold). You can also use natural wave wave cream, spinnin waves (for later or advanced wavers), olive oil hair lotion or carrot cream.
Now the most important key to getting and keeping your waves is brushing. Brushing sessions are vital to making your hair wave up. Brush your hair evenly. The top forward the sides and back down. While brushing use your moisturizer. This will make your hair manageable. Use your hard brush or medium brush while wolfing brushing sessions. 5 to 10 minutes per session will work just fine. When finished brushing durag or tsurag your hair for 30 minutes to an hour. During the day when you can't get to all your products or a hot towel, keep a medium brush with you at all times. At night, I use in this order, Coco and Shea butter wave revitalizer, hard brush for 10 minutes. Olive oil hair lotion, medium brush for 10 minutes then as a final step I use a holing cream and brush in with a soft brush for 5 minutes. I repeat this every day for a week. Then I wash my hair. When in the shower I wet my hair and apply shampoo. I brush my hair with a hard brush (one for the shower, I have 3 hard brushes in total) and brush for 10 minutes. Rinse and apply conditioner. Brush for another 10 minutes. Rinse and then pat dry my hair. Brush until almost dry with a medium brush. Apply olive oil hair lotion and brush with a medium brush for 10 mintues. Then brush with soft brush for 10 more minutes and tsurag.
After this I repeat my daily method. Do this for 8 weeks. Keep your lineup nice weekly and you will be good until you get your cut. Cut hair to a #2. Brush all dead hair away with a medium brush and apply a small amount of pomade. Brush again and durag.
